Egg shells can have a lot of beneficial uses, some of which you may never have thought of! You can use them for your live stock, to boost your plants, or even to clean dishes! Who would have thought.
In this post you’ll learn about five new ways you can use your egg shells today!
Give Them To Your Chickens
Chickens love their own eggs. Seriously, the whole entire egg. You can crack them and give them to your chickens for a great snack. Personally, I like to eat them myself, but I’ll still give them the shells!
The shells are great calcium for the birds. Just crush them up a bit and throw them in with their food or in the run, somewhere where they can find it and use it as a grit and a high calcium snack!
Boost Your House Plants
Calcium water is a great boost for your house plants, any plants really. There are two ways you can go about making this cheap concoction:
Way number one: smash up the egg shells in a large mason jar/watering can. Poor water on them and let the jar sit for a day or two. The water will become infused with calcium so you can strain it and use it on your plants!
Way number two: boil the eggs in water for 20 minutes. Remove the shells and let the water cool. Bam, calcium water.
Make An Easy Calcium Powder
Egg shells can be a great source of calcium for people! One teaspoon of egg shells has shown to be the recommended daily requirement for adults. Using a mortar and pestle or a food processor, grind up your shells into a powder. You can then add a scoop to your water, coffee, or tea in the morning to hit your calcium goal for the day!
Use Them For Seedlings
A great environmentally-friendly way to get your seedlings ready to be planted in the spring is to start them in egg shells! Save your shells throughout the winter, especially the bigger halves. When you’re ready to plant, put some dirt in the shell and plant your seed. You can grow them inside for as long as you need and then transfer them right into the ground, shell and all, when it’s time!
Use Them As An Abrasive Pot Cleaner
Egg shells are great abrasive cleaners. Smash them up, add some baking soda and washer soda and use them to clean pots and pans that have tough stains on them.
You can also use them for your garbage disposal!
Moral of the story – DON’T throw away your egg shells! There are so many uses you can get out of them! Use them for yourself, your pets, your plants, or your pots and pans!
