Kid Friendly Homemade Birthday Crown

Follow these simple steps for a fun little birthday crown!

Crafting Supplies Needed:

Fabric

Elastic

Cardboard/Card stock paper

Scissors

Measuring ribbon

Hot glue gun

Pen/pencil

Sewing machine/needle and thread optional

Step one - measure

First you need to decide how big your crown will be. To do this, take some measuring ribbon and measure your head where you want to place the crown.

Subtract 1-2 inches from that number to know how big you want your elastic to be. You can also place the elastic around your head afterwards to confirm that is a comfortable tightness.

Step Two - Decide the size of your triangles and cut them out

Next you need to decide how big you want your triangles to be. My band was 21 inches, so I did 7 3 inch triangles.

Do a little bit of math to decide how big and how many triangles you can fit around your head.

Step Three - Cut out the fabric for your triangles

Once you have your triangles cut out, you want to cover them with fun fabric. Cut the patches a bit bigger than the triangles so you can wrap them up like a present.

Step Four - Hot glue the fabric

Next, wrap your triangles up like a present and hot glue them shut.

Step Five - Covering the elastic

Cut out a piece of fabric that will cover the length of the elastic. This will make sure you don’t see the elastic through the triangles and help it look more finished.

Make sure there is enough room in the fabric that yo DON’T glue or sew the fabric to the elastic, other wise it won’t be stretchy anymore. ONLY glue or sew the FABRIC together.

Step Six - Connect the elastic ends

Once you have the fabric connected, you need to connect the elastic. To do this, pull the elastic ends out of the fabric ends and attach them to each other.

Step Seven - Glue the triangles to the headband

The last thing you need to do is glue the triangles to the headband. Arrange them evenly around the fabric so it covers all the wya around.

Again, make sure that you are not gluing or sewing the triangles to the elastic.

Your birthday crown is complete!

Wasn’t that simple? You have a happy kid and a fun crown to wear around the house all day. Sure, it’s a little homemade and a little clowny looking, but isn’t that what makes it so fun??
