This raspberry peach summer iced tea is just what I need in the morning. It give me a nice little pick me up and keeps me feeling good throughout the day. The best part, aside from it tasting delicious, is that there are no added sugars or chemicals that you might find in a pre bottled store bought tea. From someone that has gone down the rabbit hole of ingredient searching, this was something that was very important!
Why This Homemade Summer Iced Tea?
I am heavily addicted to HerbalLife Teas. There, I said it. They give me energy that doesn’t make me crash and they taste AMAZING. Plain and simple. The problem is that I cannot afford to spend $11 on a 32 oz tea 4x a week. So, I needed to come up with a homemade version that was as close as I could get but for a fraction of the price. Today I am proud to say that I found the first one that might just do the trick.
I wanted something that gave me the energy that the HerbalLife teas do and that taste yummy enough that it’s not a typical “healthy/cheaper swap” that actually sucks and I don’t enjoy. There have been a couple of things I’ve discovered since trying out different teas.
Tips to consider when making summer ice tea
- Fresh fruits are better than frozen fruits.
This is my hypothesis, I don’t actaully know why they’re better scientifically. I think the frozen fruits don’t have as much flavor as the fresh. Sure, they’re delicious in smoothies and still have lots of flavor, but for some reason when it comes to soaking them up in teas, it doesn’t work the same. Maybe it’s just the fruits I’ve tried, but so far I haven’t found one that works better than fresh.
2. The longer it sits the better it gets.
I heat up the water and tea bags first and then put in the honey and fruit. After the fruit is in the jar it has to sit in the fridge for a while to get cold. The longer it sits in there the tastier and fruitier it gets. I thought the first glass was delicious and then I got to day 3’s glass, the last one, and WOW was I missing out on day one.
I usually can’t wait long enough to drink it. i’m not going to wait 3 days to open it, but it is a nice surprise to like it more each morning I pour a glass.
3. Put honey in before you put it in the fridge.
This one feels like a given. The first time I made tea I wanted to put honey in each glass depending on my sweetness mood. The problem with that was I had to heat up each glass I poured, then put in honey, then ice and wait for it to cool again because I wanted ice tea. That took too long.
The second time I made it I forgot to put the honey in while it was still warm. Obviously, when I said “whatever” and squeezed some into the cold mason jar, it just clumped together and sunk to the bottom. Not very effective.
The third time, thankfully, was a charm. I put the honey in before the fruit and the fridge and it worked perfectly. It seems like really common sense but it took me 3 tries to figure it out so I thought I’d let you know just in case.
While I do love this tea, I know I’ll still be a regular at my local HerbalLife shop. However, this concoction will give me the boost I need when my wallet doesn’t support my HerbalLife wishes. Enjoy!
Raspberry Peach Summer Tea
3-4
servings10
minutesThe perfect naturally sweet and caffeinated tea to get you going in the morning or pick you up int he afternoon.
Ingredients
4-5 black tea bags
5 washed and sliced peaches
1/2 cup smashed raspberries
Raw unfiltered honey
Directions
Heat up 5 cups of water with the 4-5 black tea bags. Pour into the jar you will be keeping the tea in. I recommend a mason jar.
Wash the peaches and raspberries. Slice the peaches and smash the raspberries.
Pour honey into the warm/hot tea. The more honey the sweeter it will be so pour to your hearts desire.
Put the raspberries and the peaches into the tea jar. If it starts to over flow, pour out some tea and keep packing in the fruit.
Let it sit and cool off in the fridge. The longer it sits the stronger the peach and raspberry flavors will be.
